been one or two different types of wine glasses.\u00a0 \u00a0Since then, the market is flooded with a wine glass to go with a specific wine.\u00a0 Is that all necessary?\u00a0 Not really, but there are some basics about what glass to use with red or white wines.\u00a0 \u00a0Not that the wrong glass will take away from tasting the wine, but the right glass may make it easier.<\/p>\n<p>I am sure some of you older folks will remember the classic champagne glass.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rdilauro.com\/CarpeVino\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/champagne-glass.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-346 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/rdilauro.com\/CarpeVino\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/champagne-glass-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" newly married couples got as part of their wedding registry gifts.\u00a0 We still have a set that pretty much looks like this picture.<\/p>\n<p>But to really appreciate champagne and how much effort the wine makers put into it, having a better shaped glass is so much better.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/rdilauro.com\/CarpeVino\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/fluted-champagne.jpeg\"><img sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This shape allows the drinker to watch as all the <em>tiny bubbles<\/em> slowly rise up the glass and an endless display.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Red wine<\/span> glasses generally should have a bigger bowl.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rdilauro.com\/CarpeVino\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/red-wine-glass.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-348 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/rdilauro.com\/CarpeVino\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/red-wine-glass-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This allows the drinker to <em>put<\/em> their noses right into the glass to appreciate the various bouquet\/aromas that red wines have.\u00a0 \u00a0This type of glass also allows you to swirl the glass more so that the aromas can be even more detectable, plus you can examine the <strong><em>legs <\/em><\/strong>of the wine.\u00a0 \u00a0When you see these legs (tears) they are an indication of the alcohol content of the wine.\u00a0 The higher the alcohol, the large legs you will see.\u00a0 \u00a0That should also represent that the wine will have a full body.<\/p>\n<p><strong>White wine<\/strong> glasses generally have a more of a U shape and more upright helping the aromas to be release and keeping the wine temperature more constant.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/rdilauro.com\/CarpeVino\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/white-wine-glass.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter Sherry\u00a0<\/strong>glasses should always be smaller than your Red or White wine glass.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/rdilauro.com\/CarpeVino\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/port-glass.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-350 size-thumbnail\" you<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cognac\u00a0<\/strong>While Cognac and Brandy are not wines, they are distilled from grapes, not from grains like whiskeys are.\u00a0 \u00a0I had a kit to take wine and to distill it into a brandy.\u00a0 It was a fun experiment, not resulting in any good brandy, but interesting.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/rdilauro.com\/CarpeVino\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/cognac.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-351 size-thumbnail\" 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The glasses used for Cognac are different then those for other wines.\u00a0 \u00a0They allow the drinker to swirl the cognac to release its enormous boquet which will aid in the actual tasting of the cognac.\u00a0 \u00a0When I drink cognac, the first thing I do is put an ice cube into the glass, swirl it around a couple of times and then dump the ice cube out.\u00a0 \u00a0Then I pour my cognac.\u00a0 Adding that little bit of water, really brings out more of the flavor in the cognac.\u00a0 \u00a0Try it sometime.<\/p>\n<p><strong>However\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>While the appropriate glass can enhance the pleasure in drinking wine, please do not <em>refrain<\/em> from drinking wine because you <em>do not have<\/em> the proper glass!\u00a0 I think the only vessel I do not like drinking wine out of is, a plastic cup!\u00a0 My wife feels real strong about this.\u00a0 She wants her wine glass!\u00a0 When
