{"id":111,"date":"2018-08-18T00:41:09","date_gmt":"2018-08-18T04:41:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rdilauro.com\/CarpeVino\/?p=111"},"modified":"2018-12-11T10:33:32","modified_gmt":"2018-12-11T15:33:32","slug":"tasting-wine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rdilauro.com\/CarpeVino\/2018\/08\/18\/tasting-wine\/","title":{"rendered":"Tasting Wine"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6 style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/rdilauro.com\/CarpeVino\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/download.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-125 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/rdilauro.com\/CarpeVino\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/download-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rdilauro.com\/CarpeVino\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/download-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/rdilauro.com\/CarpeVino\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/download-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/h6>\n<p>Tasting wines should always be a fun experience.\u00a0 \u00a0Over the years, so much emphasis has been placed on all the various attributes about wine that it has become more and more difficult for people just to enjoy the tastings.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone can taste and enjoy a new glass of wine.\u00a0 \u00a0But there are certain aspects of tasting that can enhance your experience without it becoming an overwhelming task.\u00a0 \u00a0There are some basics about wine that everyone should be aware of.\u00a0 \u00a0 This doesn&#8217;t matter if you are tasting a Red, White or Rose wine.<\/p>\n<p><em>Color and Clarity<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Aroma\/Boquet<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Taste\u00a0 (Dry, Sweet)<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Body<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Finish<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Color\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong>This is the &#8216;hue&#8217; of the wine color.\u00a0 \u00a0Most white wines should always be light in color, some may have a pale yellow tone, some a deeper golden color, while some may be almost colorless.\u00a0 \u00a0But you always want to look for the clarity of the wine.\u00a0 Should be brilliant, not cloudy and without any particles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aroma\/Boquet\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong>In pure terms, <em>Aroma<\/em> comes from the type of grape in the wine, while <em>Boquet<\/em> is what is developed after the wine is fermented.\u00a0 \u00a0Personally, I use these terms interchangeable.\u00a0 \u00a0I am sure you have watched people tasting wines where they almost put their entire nose into the glass!\u00a0 \u00a0May look a bit strange, but this is one way in which you can start to detect all the different aromas\/boquet in different wines.\u00a0 \u00a0 Here is where you will hear the terms: vanilla, chocolate, mint, blackberry, currant, smoke and much more.\u00a0 \u00a0Dont be concerned about all of this, just try to pick out an aroma that you can smell.\u00a0 And if you cant, dont worry about it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Taste (Dry,Sweet)\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>This is probably the easiest one for anyone to distinguish.\u00a0 Basically, dry wines are those that all of the sugar has been fermented out, while sweet wines maintain some residual sugar.\u00a0 \u00a0Your tongue will be the judge to determine a dry wine from a sweet wine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Body\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>This is a difficult attribute to describe.\u00a0 You will hear full body, thin, lean, etc.\u00a0 What does all that mean.\u00a0 The easiest way to identify the body is to use an analogy of milk.\u00a0 Heavy Cream to Non-Fat\u00a0 \u00a0 A full bodied wine fills your mouth just as heavy cream would do.\u00a0 And on far opposite, a thin wine would be like having non\u00a0 fat milk.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Finish\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>For me, this is one of the most important attribute about a wine.\u00a0 The finish is how long the taste of that wine stays with you after you swallow.\u00a0 \u00a0Is it a quick hello and goodbye?\u00a0 or is it a long lingering aftertaste that stays with you for a long time to remember.<\/p>\n<p>These are just some very simple terms in basic wine tasting.\u00a0 \u00a0Its enough to get you started so that you can enjoy tasting wine\u00a0 at a retail shop, with friends or any place.\u00a0 \u00a0One thing I can guarantee is that after you start tasting wines for a while, you will develop more intense feelings about it, picking out subtle differences between grapes.\u00a0 \u00a0 My biggest advice is to always take notes about the wines you are tasting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tasting wines should always be a fun experience.\u00a0 \u00a0Over the years, so much emphasis has been placed on all the various attributes about wine that it has become more and more difficult for people just to enjoy the tastings.
